SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 39

Recognizing the 17th anniversary of the "Doc for a Day Program".
Whereas, In 1989, the West Virginia Academy of Family
Physicians began a free medical service program to the West
Virginia Legislature during its Regular Session known as the "Doc
for a Day Program"; and
Whereas, The "Doc for a Day Program" is provided to
legislators, employees, government officials and the general public
at the State Capitol by volunteer family physicians from around the
state during the legislative session; and
Whereas, In addition to the participation of volunteer family
physicians, the "Doc for a Day Program" also includes medical
residents from the Charleston Division of the West Virginia
University School of Medicine and the Marshall University School of
Medicine; and
Whereas, While providing medical care for minor medical
treatments, the "Doc for a Day Program" has also treated serious
and life-threatening medical situations; and
Whereas, Over 28,000 patients have received free quality
medical care through the "Doc for a Day Program" since its
inception; and
Whereas, The West Virginia "Doc for a Day Program" has served
as a model for free medical care programs for many other state
legislatures; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the 17th anniversary of the
"Doc for a Day Program"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby extends its
appreciation to the West Virginia Academy of Family Physicians for
its outstanding participation in a program dedicated to providing
free medical service to the West Virginia Legislature; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the appropriate officials of the West
Virginia Academy of Family Physicians.
